ButterMilk Truck Revisited – The Launch Party

12 Nov

We are sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled programming (aka part two of Foodbuzz) but we have some breaking news!

Remember how I posted about how excited I was about the ButterMilk Truck? Well they launched last night, and it seemed like a success! D and I got there a little after 9pm and there was a HUGE line. When a gal came through at around 10:45 saying they were going to stop serving at 11 and I’d only moved about 3 feet, me and the other people around me in line almost rioted. I started despairingly tweeting about how I wasn’t going to make it through the line! Luckily I think it was either a ploy to thin out the line, or they realized that it would be really unwise of them to keep all the people who had been waiting for over an hour from eating their food and I finally got to order after midnight.

Normally (and I tweeted this last night too) I don’t DO lines. But this was definitely worth it. We ordered the buttermilk red velvet chocolate chip pancake bites, the buttermilk biscuit breakfast sandwich, the fried chicken with housemade cinnamon waffles, and the mysterious buttermilk brick.

Let’s start with the chicken and waffles. Now, I can’t say that this was bad, it was definitely a valiant and somewhat tasty attempt. But I also live within walking distance of a Roscoe’s. Not bad, but not great either.

Then the red velvet chocolate chip pancake bites. Might I say, “Wow!” These were delicious! Red velvet batter, perfectly cooked, dotted with sweet chocolate chips, a sprinkling of confectioner’s sugar, and a side of cream cheese frosting. They smelled absolutely amazing every time someone walked by with them as I was waiting in line, and these did NOT disappoint.

The buttermilk biscuit is served on a housemade buttermilk biscuit with cheese and fried egg, and it comes with your choice of applewood smoked bacon, tocino, or chicken apple sausage. I love bacon, so I ordered it with bacon, and for an extra $.50 you can add a side of rosemary garlic hashbrowns. Got those too. This was also definitely worth the wait. The egg was nice and runny, the bacon nice and crispy, the cheese nice and gooey. The hashbrowns? Rosemary is a touch I NEVER would have thought of, but it was PERFECT.

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for. What is the Buttermilk Brick? It is a pile of nommy hashbrowns, topped with runny fried egg, with a buttermilk biscuit and smothered with a mouth watering gravy. I ate this and nearly peed myself it was that good. Yeah. Um, f***ing delicious. I could have had another, it was THAT good.

And of course, the obligatory picture of me stuffing my face:

Buttermilk truck, I’m glad I waited in line for you, and I am proud to call you a commissary buddy! :)

The Buttermilk Truck – and Hello and Goodbye

5 Nov

Since the Buttermilk Truck’s official launch is next week (at my favorite parking spot – The Brig in Venice!!! – a favorite because I’ve got some GREAT regulars), I thought I’d post about 1) how FRAKKING excited I am and 2) some pictures of the truck in all it’s commissary glory.

That’s right the Border Grill truck now shares the commissary with not just India Chow, Bool, a brand new Calbi truck, but also the ButterMilk truck! YAY! :) Our commissary is the best! Especially when there are two hour police standoffs when I’m pulling up to get the truck! It was all over the news!! But regardless the reason I’m posting:

The truck – pretty huh?:

The menu – all I can say is YUM!:

So, ButterMilk Truck, I will try to be at your launch support my fellow food truckers, that is, if I myself am not trucking that night too. The same way I support others like CoolHaus by giving them a jump after events! And commiserating with Grilled Cheese Truck about working by the light of your cell phone! Or bonding with Get Shaved about certain pushy people… Yes…it takes a certain kind to work a food truck…

That and the “Buttermilk Brick” description makes me drool…

EDIT: This is NOT my truck, if that was confusing. Christina = Border Grill Truck. Buttermilk Truck = different truck that Christina is super excited about. Hehe.

And now for something completely different: To our outgoing executive chef at the restaurant. I’m sorry I didn’t make it to your going away party, but I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. You are a great guy, and I hope your last day was a good one. To our incoming exec chef: WELCOME! :)

Kogi BBQ Truck

20 Apr

So after hearing about the Kogi BBQ truck on my friend’s Twitter, I decided I HAD to check it out. After all, I AM the taco truck connoisseur. Korean BBQ tacos? Sure! Why not?!

The beauty of this truck is that you have to hunt it down, you have to find it, it’s like a game! You have to be in the know because they’re not like the regular trucks that post in the same spot every night of the week. They try to post their locations on twitter and you have to get there between the posted hours or you’re stuck with nothing. And my friend had decided that she had really enjoyed the tacos, so all this together, sounded like good times to me.

One of the trucks was in Eagle Rock last night, so D and I decided to head down there for some TACOS! We barely made it. Lucky that we did, because it was AMAZING. We each ordered one of each taco since it was our first time and we wanted to try everything, and we tried to order the kimchee quesadilla but they said they were out unfortunately. :( Maybe next time. Instead we ordered an extra spicy pork taco each…we were hungry!

Here’s some pics from the night. The first couple were with the Bberry so they didn’t come out great, but nevertheless:

This is me in front of the truck!

Apparently Kogi BBQ truck was the SAFEST place to be in Los Angeles last night! All the cops were there. They kept radioing each other the location, it was so funny!

The tacos from Left to Right: Chicken, Short Rib, Tofu, Spicy Pork

D eating a yummy taco.

“Mmmmmmm!”

Anyway, hats off to Kogi BBQ! A new level of food fabulousness…
