So my sister, Amanda, came home for the summer last week. She and I spent a couple of days together catching up and I decided it would be a great idea to include her in my food (mis)adventures!
Since D and I are semi-regulars at Tokyo Table in Arcadia, we often chit chat with the servers and one of the servers suggested if we liked ramen we might like Hakata Ramen Shin Sen Gumi in Rosemead. I’d been meaning to try it, and Amanda and I decided this was as good a time as any to embrace the Japanese half of our ethnic heritage and check it out.
The ordering system is really easy. They give you a slip of paper and on that you indicate what you’re ordering, your noodle firmness, the amount of oil, the amount of broth saturation, and any extras. It’s completely customizable which makes it great for people who prefer their ramens prepared in certain ways.
Both of us decided that we were going to order the set A which is the Hakata Ramen and pan friend Gyoza as an appetizer. They gyoza were not terrible, but they weren’t really anything to write home about either.
The only thing I would say that’s even a little bit negative is that the noise is a little overwhelming! They’re constantly shouting when people come in and when people leave and the place is tiny so it’s just that much louder. There’s also a bit of a wait since this place is pretty popular.
But the ramen was excellent and so was the price. All of this ended up being like $20! Anywhere I can feed 2 people for 20 bucks, is fabulous in MY book!
